Mr. Corbett had been in failing health for the past year. William Corbett was born June 31 [sic], 1837, in Gower, South Wales. He was married in Wales in 1869 to Mary Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Corbett came to America and Emporia in May, 1870, traveling by stagecoach from Burlingame. In 1913, they made a trip to Europe, visiting in Wales. The home at 2 South Congress has been the Corbett home since Mr. and Mrs. Corbett first settled here. Mrs. Corbett died there July 3, 1917. Mr. Corbett was the first commissioner of public utilities in Emporia. He was elected in 1910, when the commission form of government went into effect, and served for three years. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. lodge No. 2. Three sons survive Mr. Corbett. They are Edgar D. Corbett, Dr. O. J. Corbett, and Dr. A. W. Corbett, all of Emporia. Four grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the O. J. Corbett home, 619 Neosho street. Rev. J. H. J. Rice, pastor of the First Congregational church, will conduct the services. Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery.
