Description	:	William David Jarman was born near Kewanee, Illinois on February 4, 1869 and passed away at Cottage Rest Home in Red Oak, Iowa on February 27, 1961 at the age of 92 years and 23 days. He moved with his family to Farragut, Iowa when he was five years old and it was there he spent the remainder of his childhood. Read More	William David Jarman was born near Kewanee, Illinois on February 4, 1869 and passed away at Cottage Rest Home in Red Oak, Iowa on February 27, 1961 at the age of 92 years and 23 days. He moved with his family to Farragut, Iowa when he was five years old and it was there he spent the remainder of his childhood. As a young man, he attended college at Tabor, Iowa and later Simpson at Indanola, Iowa. When he was in his early 20’s he became a telegraph operator for the Burlington Railroad and worked at several stations between Council Bluffs, and Ottumwa. In 1890, while working at Brooks, Iowa, he met Mollie B. Arthur and they were married on December 22, 1892. He was transferred to Nodaway, Iowa the same year, where he continued working for the same company until 1902 when he entered the lumber business. He disposed of this business in1916, farmed for 6 years, then became manager of the Green Bay Lumber Company, a position he held for 36 years and until he retired in 1952. Mr. Jarman was the oldest of seven children, born to Silas T. and Mary Likes Jarman, all of whom preceded him in death. He was the father of nine children, Silas and William, having died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Mary Kernen of Villisca, Mrs. Marguerite Smith of Derby, Colorado; Mrs. Kathryn Mundt of Denison; Mrs. Florence Cornwall of Nodaway; Mrs. Dorothy Geith of Emerson; Paul of Anamosa, and Harry of Anaheim, California. Surviving also are 19 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Mr. Jarman’s greatest interest in life was his family. He encouraged them all to seek an education and to make the most of their many opportunities. His happiness moments came when he could have all of his children and grandchildren home for Christmas or for other special occasions. He was a wonderful father, husband, and leader in his community, and he will be greatly missed not only by his family, but by all who have known and respected him throughout a long and useful life. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, March 2 at 2:00 from the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca. The Rev. Alvin D. Sigafus, pastor of the Villisca and Nodaway Presbyterian Church officiated. Replacing the traditional type of service. The Rev. Sigafus’ prayer and scripture, 23rd Psalm were in verse as was his message which consisted of the beautiful composite of fifteen humans. Soft organ music was played throughout the service by Mrs. Mabel Dunn. Pall bearers were Gilbert Rider, Bill O’Riley, Ned Hoyt, Oscar Schroeder, Ray Stuphen, and Ivan Heaton. Flower bearers were Ethel Means and Anna Mae Stalder. Masonic rites were held at the graveside with Frederick Larson and Frank Cole of Emerson officiating. Burial was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
