Description	:	Bill Devin was born Sept 19, 1917 in Weiser, Idaho. At the age of 3 he moved with his family to Seattle, where he was raised near Seward Park and attended school. Read More	Bill Devin was born Sept 19, 1917 in Weiser, Idaho. At the age of 3 he moved with his family to Seattle, where he was raised near Seward Park and attended school. When he was fifteen, he and his best friend and cousin, Walt Martin, hiked across the Cascade Mountains to Stehekin and took the boat to Chelan. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1935 and then served in the US Navy from 1935 to 1939 , as Radioman on the battleship USS PENNSYLVANIA and later re-enlisted, serving from 1942 to 1945, stationed in Corpus Cristi, Texas and Vallejo, California. He married Priscilla Dean, whom he had met at Wilson Business School, on February 14, 1942, in Seattle. He served in the Air Force Reserve during the Korean conflict. The Devin family came to Bremerton in 1948, where Bill worked as a Planner and Estimator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He was a devoted husband and father who loved to walk home from work and play with his family, including sons David and Jim and daughters Sally, Tina, and Beth.. He was a musician who loved to play his guitar and piano and also banjo and ukulele and to sing barber shop quartet, camp fire songs, and old love tunes. He taught himself how to play the piano and taught his children music, math, geography, and history. He had a passion for wilderness: loved to climb mountains, hike in the woods, scamper up a rocks and along driftwood, swim, and ski. He was a member of Peninsula Sailing Club and built and sailed his windmill class sailboat, and a rope leader for Olympic College Basic Mountaineering course. Bill was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and a cub scout leader. He was taking scuba diving lessons, golf, and photography classes at Olympic College at the time of his death on May 6, 1972. Family and friends were shocked to lose him at such an early age and have missed him for decades. He is remembered and cherished for his love and devotion for his family, his honor and leadership, and his playfulness and zest for life.
