Read More	Married to Edith Hinkle. ********************************************* The Emporia Gazette, 28 Feb 1910, Monday HOW WILLIAM DICKERSON WAS KILLED The body of William Dickerson, who was killed Saturday morning near Lone Wolf, Okla., was brought to Emporia this morning on train No. 118, and later moved to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hinkle, 18 Merchant street. A party from Emporia, including Mrs. Hinkle, Miss Ellson, Harry Rosseter and Blaine Newkirk went to Wichita yesterday and met the party from Fairview, accompanying the body in this second party were Mrs. Mrs. (sic) Dickerson, Mr. Dickerson's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Dickerson, of Ness City, Mrs. James Porter, Miss Flora Porter, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gallety, of Wichita, and Jack Howell, a partner brakeman. Mr. Dickerson's death occurred in a wreck on the Orient road, about 7:30 o'clock in the morning, three miles from Lone Wolf. The train was running at a moderate rate of speed, and the car nearest the engine and five other cars jumped the track. The impetus was sufficient to hurl them down the embankment and completely turn them over. Mr. Dickerson was on top of one of the cars and was thrown beneath the wreckage. In the fall his neck was broken and death was instantaneous. A friend, Engineer James Porter, formerly of Emporia, was running the train at the time of the accident. Mr. Dickerson was born in Glasco, Kan., September 12, 1884, and later moved with his parents to Ness City. He was an only child, and his parents, as well as his young wife, are heart-broken over his tragic and sudden death. He came to Emporia about four years ago to work for the Santa Fe, and during his life here made many friends. Last September he was married to Miss Edith Hinkle, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hinkle, and shortly after their marriage they went to live in Fairview, Okla., where Mr. Dickerson had recently secured employment with the Orient. Mr. Dickerson was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and of the Modern Woodman Lodge. He was an honest, straightforward young man, and his death is sincerely mourned by a great many friends. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Baptist church, when the casket will be open. The services will be conducted by Rev. Frank Durham, of the Baptist church, the B. of R. T. having a part in the services. Interment will be made in Maplewood cemetery.
