Description	:	W.E. Reeves William Edward, son of William Austin and Elizabeth Ann Reeves, was born at Wiota, Ia., November 20, 1868, and died September 1, 1943, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 12 days. When he was only 3 years old, the family moved to a farm southeast of Byron, and here he grew to manhood, experiencing the hardships of pioneer life. He was one of the first pupils attending the Washington school, and later attended Ash Grove school near his home. September 17, 1890, he was married to Margaret Dry, and in 1940 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. To them were born four children, Nina Mildred Beckley of Parma, Idaho; Lena Belle, who died in infancy; Joseph Austin, of Everett, Wash.; and Bessie Irene Krause of Belleville. He continued farming until 1900 when they moved into Byron and later to Chester. In 1904 they again moved to Byron, where they had since resided. For the past 25 years he had carried on a real estate and insurance business. He served his community in many capacities. For years he was a member of the school board, and he had been mayor of the city and the precinct assessor. Though not a member of the church, he had been a regular attendant of the Methodist church (sic), and had helped in many ways with its support. He took great pride in the improvements of streets in Byron, and as long as he was able gave a great deal of time and energy to that work. He was a familiar figure on the streets of Byron, but had been failing for several years. He had been an active member of the M.W.A. and A.O.U.W. lodges, and also was a member of the Chester Masonic lodge, A.F. and A.M. No. 298. Besides his faithful and devoted wife, the two daughters and son, he leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Mable Huffman of San Marino, Cal.; a brother, Scott Reeves of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandsons, two granddaughters and four great-grandsons, many other relatives and friends. His parents and one sister, Ethel, preceded him in death. Three of his grandsons are serving in the Navy, and two are in the Army. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Methodist church (sic) in Byron, conducted by the Rev. C.W. Roll of Belleville, assisted by the Rev. Laurence Dry of Mitchell, Neb.
