Kiewel, an old and well known resident of this vicinity, at 7:50 o'clock Saturday morning, came as a shock to the entire community. The week previous he had taken an auto trip to Granite Falls, Minn., where he has property interests and where his son Rudolf, and family live. He was taken sick on the return trip and gradually declined until the end came at his home in this city. He had never entirely recovered from a serious illness in 1929, when he consulted the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn. and his death was due to cancer of the stomach and complications at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 15 days. Wm. Edward Kiewel was born February where he was also baptized and confirmed in the Ev. Lutheran church. On April 24, 1876, he was united in marriage with Bertha Lauchatadt, This union was blessed with ten children—four sons and six daughters. Two daughters preceded them into eternity. In 1881 they came to the United States settling at Ida Grove, Iowa where they lived about two years and then moved onto a farm in Union county, S. D. There they continued to live until 1912 when they retired from farming and moved to Akron, living here the remainder of their lives. His faithful and devoted helpmate preceded him in death about two years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. Walter Fickbohm, of Hollister, Mo.; W. E. Kiewel, of Akron, Iowa; Paul Kiewel of Westfield Iowa and Mrs. C. L. Streeter of Kansas City, Mo. all of who were present at the funeral of their father. Besides the children there are forty-three grandchildren 1 great-grandchild and two sisters surviving him. They have the sympathy of their many friends in this bereavement. During the many years he farmed Mr. Kiewel was an active and diligent worker and his efforts wee well rewarded. He was a kind and devoted husband and father and his pleasant and genial nature gained him a host of fiends, by whom he will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, at 1:45 at the home and 2:00 o'clock in Trinity Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor Rev. F.A. Meske. The interment was in Riverside cemetery.
