Description	:	William Egloff came to the US with his mother when he was 9 years old, his father having died in Germany. They located in New Orleans and later moved to Otoe County, Nebraska. He married Margaret Calvart on May 16, 1858, in Otoe County. They moved to Fremont County, Iowa and resided on a farm north of Sidney. Margaret and William had 13 children. William was a member of... Read More	William Egloff came to the US with his mother when he was 9 years old, his father having died in Germany. They located in New Orleans and later moved to Otoe County, Nebraska. He married Margaret Calvart on May 16, 1858, in Otoe County. They moved to Fremont County, Iowa and resided on a farm north of Sidney. Margaret and William had 13 children. Other than 3 years living in California, William lived in Fremont County until his death. Known children are: Warren/Warner, Elizabeth, John, Maria(h), Sarah, Charles, Nannie, and Ella. William was a member of Co E 29th IA Infantry and was also a member of the drum corps. He enlisted as a Private on 15 August 1862 at the age of 26. Mustered in Company E, 29th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 12 Nov 1862. He was with Sherman on his famous march to the sea, but received a gun shot wound at Salem River, Arkansas. He was hospitalized for several months.The gunshot wound entered his back and exited, causing damage to his lungs and kidney. William's cause of death resulted from disease of the kidneys, a direct result of his wound. He mustered out of Company E on 10 Aug 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana. William died in 1905 at his home north of Sidney at the age of 68 years 11 months. Margaret moved to California and died in 1919 at the home of her daughter in Sonoma County. - - - - - Suggested edit: It may be that the wound was suffered at the Saline River, in Arkansas.
