The following from the Platte County Gazette, Parkville: His many Parkville friends were shocked to learn of the death of Will Broadhurst, Monday February 4, in a hospital at Burbank, California. Will's friends had no idea that he was seriously ill, and had been expecting to see him back for a visit in the spring. William E. Broadhurst was the elder of two sons born to Belle Prather and Columbus W. Broadhurst, November 5, 1879, on a farm east of Parkville near the river, just south of the rock house. The land has now been almost entirely absorbed by the changing river currents. His father came from Kentucky to settle on the new land and entered the grocery business in Parkville in 1892, and teaching his sons the grocery business and merchandising, as the grew to manhood. After the death of the father, the sons continued the Parkville grocery business until 1906, when the partnership was dissolved. Will then opened a hardware store, which operated for several years, and was located in the building that is now the Garden Valley Hatchery. The building is still owned by the estate. Mr. Broadhurst moved to Kansas City in 1920, where he was employed by the Bunting Hardware Company. He then managed the Bunting store in Independence from 1925 to 1935, returning to Parkville upon his retirement. During the war years, he worked at the North American plant in Kansas City. He grew to manhood in this community, was educated in the Parkville schools and with his paternal family, attended the one time thriving Methodist Church and Sunday School in the building now used as a Community church. Mr. Broadhurst married Miss Leffa Bobbitt of Seneca, Kansas, who preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Rigoni of Woodland Hills, Calif.; and a niece, Miss Frances Nell Broadhurst of Parkville. He had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Rigoni the past nine months.
