Son of John Ashton Carter and Nancy Higgins OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 20, 1943 WILLIAM ELLIOTT CARTER William Elliott Carter, former resident of Marion county, near Columbia, Iowa, departed this life on May 16, 1943, at Newton, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was born near Danville, Ind. on January 6, 1868, and was the son of Elliott and Nancy Carter. He came to Iowa about 45 years ago and lived in Marion county near the Lucas county line until a few years ago, then went to Buckalew, Mo., where he remained until a few months ago when he went to Newton where his death occurred. He was married on Feb. 22, 1899, to Rebecca Anna Byers, who preceded him in death. Two children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Marion Rinehart, of Newton survives. He also leaves two grandchildren, Anna and Clinton Rinehart; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Ray, of Danville, Ind., and Mrs. C. A. Hilgenburg, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and one brother, John Carter, of Longmont, Colo. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Belinda Christian church, conducted by Rev. Vaughn Anderson, and burial was in the Strong cemetery.
