Hauver Jr.. 70, director of the Poultry Division in the Consumer and Marketing Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture until he retired in 1973 with 35 years of Federal Service. Mr. Hauver died Friday, Jan. 13, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, of cardiac arrest. He was the husband of Eloise Dahn Hauver. Mr. Hauver, who resided in Potomac, was born in Myersville. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in agricultural economics at the University of Maryland. He began his career with the Department of Agriculture in 1938 as a grader and market news service reporter for poultry, eggs and dairy products. After service with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Mr. Hauver returned to the Poultry Division of the Agriculture Department where he became chief of the standardization and marketing practices branch in 1956. He was named deputy director of the Poultry Division in 1962 and director in 1968. During his career, Mr. Hauver received a Certificate of Merit and the Superior Service Award from the Department of Agriculture. In 1965 he received the Presidential Citation. Mr. Hauver was a member of the Lions Club. Surviving, besides his wife, are three children, James Hauver, Mark Hauver and Mary Lee LeBarton, all of Potomac; two sisters, Catherine Ahalt and Joanna Doggett, both of Myersville; and two grandsons. Services and interment will be private. Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, was in charge of arrangements. Friends will be received at Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md., Tuesday, January 17, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service and interment private.
