Berry, a native of North Strabane township and until a few years ago a resident of this community, died late yesterday at Courtland, Ohio, where he had made his home for a year or two. He was aged almost 74 years. Mr. Berry had, been in failing health for some time, and his death yesterday was not unexpected. His brother, S. W. Berry, went to Courtland last evening in answer to a summons, but reached there after his brother had passed away. William Gilmore Berry was born January 22, 1848, in North Strabane township, of pioneer ancestry. He was the oldest of three sons born to Matthew and Margaret (Willison) Berry, and was given the name of his father, William Gilmore Berry, a native of Lancaster county, Pa., born December 2, 1781. Matthew Berry was born in Cecil township, January 30, 1823. In 1836 he moved with his family to the "Peach Garden" farm, a mile south of Canonsburg, which is now the property pf S. W. Berry. Matthew Berry died in June, 1914, in his 92d year. Like his father and grandfather, W. G. Berry was interested in sheep breeding and an advocate of advanced ideas in agriculture, but for many years he was a contracting carpenter. From 1888 to 1898 he was editor of the Sheep Register. In 1893 he was a member of the National Livestock Association's committee of eighteen which prepared an exhibit of livestock for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, representing fine-wooled sheep. He was instrumental m founding the Farmers' Institute, which has held sessions in Canonsburg every winter for thirty years. He was long a member of the United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Berry was married on December 29, 1869, to Margaret I. Garrett, who survives. Three daughters were horn to them: Lillie M., deceased; Nannie, wife of S. H. Arnold, Avella, and Margaret I., widow of A. H. Dickson, Ada, Ohio. S. W. Berry, North Strabane township, is Mr. Berry's only surviving brother. The late John A. Berry of Houston, who at the time of his death was serving as a member of the Board of County Commissioners of Washington county, was a brother. Funeral services will be held in the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church, Canonsburg, Monday afternoon, following the arrival of the 2:20 train from Pittsburgh, on which train the body will reach here.
