Landon Succumbs To Paralysis Saturday Evening After Being In Ill Health For Past Few Years. Funeral Tuesday Afternoon William H. Landon, retired locomotive engineer of the Norfolk Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, died at his home on Pine Street, in Crisfield, Saturday evening from paralysis, having suffered a stroke a few days before his death. He had been in ill health for the past few years. Mr. Landon was nearing his seventy ninth year, having been born near Hopewell, a short distance from the present corporation limits of Crisfield, on October 14, 1852. He entered the service of the Eastern Shore Railroad Company January 15, 1871, as a fireman, when the old wood-burning locomotive were in use. He soon made good and was made engineer in one year's time. He held that position until the year 1922 when he was retired after a continuous service of 51 years. During this time the Eastern Shore Railroad became the N. Y. P. and N Railroad, and later the Norfolk Division of the Pennsylvania system. Still more recently it was merged with the Delaware Division to form the Delmarva Division. Mr. Landon's first run as an engineer was between Crisfield and Delmar, and during the years that he acted in that capacity, his career was one of marked success, and few men in the employ of the Railroad Company were as well known or as highly esteemed as this veteren of throttle. At various times during his railroad service, Mr. Landon hauled the highest officials of the Pennsylvania system, and on many occasions he made record-breaking runs to meet emergencies. Notably among the latter was a run to Pocomoke City more than 40 years ago, when the Worcester city was at the mercy of the flames and appealed to the Crisfield Fire Department for assistance. The Crisfield fire fighters were credited with doing the best work of any fire company on the scene, and Mr. Landon was given public acknowledgement for his good work in hauling the firemen and their equipment to the scene of the fire in record-breaking time. Not only was Mr. Landon well known and highly esteemed as an efficient locomotive engineer, but as a citizen of Crisfield he enjoyed the esteem, respect and confidence of the entire community. He was a life-long, member of Immanuel M. E. Church and a consistent Christian gentleman. He was always in attendance at the services of his church when his health would permit. He was especially interested in the Sunday School. In his passing it can truly be said that death has claimed for its victim one that had as many friends as any one living in this community. Truly a good man has gone out from among us to join the great majority beyond the grave. And from the kind of life that he lived there can be no doubt but that in the final day he will reap the reward that is promised the righteous. He is survived by four daughters, Miss Cora Landon, Mrs. Minnie Unglaub, Miss Jane Landon and Miss Alida Landon; two sons, Oscar B. Landon and Clarence Landon, all of Crisfield; four grandchildren, Mrs. John Ernst, of Baltimore, Miss Frances Unglaub, Mrs. Harvey Bradshaw and Master Junie Butler, of Crisfield, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from his late home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John J. Bunting, pastor of Immanuel M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. J.
