Read More	FORMER CITY MAYOR DIES William Harrison Brookover, 84, a lifelong resident of Eureka, died Thursday, July 21, 1977. in the Greenwood County Hospital, following a long illness. Harrison served this community in many capacities throughout he years. He was secretary-treasurer of the reorganized Greenwood County Fair in the late 1920's. He was as an active member of the Congregational Church and served as one of its trustees. He was a member of the local school board, and was Eureka's mayor from 1945 to 1951. He was instrumental in helping the city build a swimming pool and baseball diamond the city park. While attending Kansas State University he was a charter member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was married to Marjorie Simpson, November 21, 1923, in Nowata, Okla. Harrison purchased a business on West Second in June 1929. This was sold to the Albert Browns in 1964. The same year, he opened. the popular ‘Garden Spot'.' at 601 North Main and later retired from active business. The son of William. Jeptha. Brookover and Emma Bailey Brookover, he was born December 16, 1892, in Eureka. Survivors include his widow, Marjorie; of the, home; three sons, Harrison, Jr. of Coffeyville, Robert of Fort Collins, Colo, and Mason of Los Angeles, Calif., three brothers, Sam and John of, Eureka and George Orangeville, Ill.; two sisters, Marian, Brookover of Hutchinson, and Irene Davis of Eureka; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard. The funeral was held at the Campbell Funeral Home, July 23, with interment in Greenwood cemetery. The Rev. Gilbert Daniel of the Christian Congregational Church was officiating clergyman. A memorial has been established in his name to the Eureka Recreation Commission for city park improvement. Memorials may be left at Campbell Funeral Home. EUREKA — Funeral services for William Harrison Brookover, retired businessman and former Eureka mayor will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. in the Campbell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gilbert Daniel of the Christian Congregational Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Brookover died Thursday in the Greenwood County Hospital. The son of William J. and Emma Bailey Brookover, he was born Dec. 16, 1892, in Eureka and was a lifetime resident. Mr. Brookover was a graduate of the Southern Kansas Academy in Eureka and Kansas State University, Manhattan, where he was a charger member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was married to Marjorie Simpson in Nowata, Okla., on Nov. 21, 1923. Survivors include his wife Marjorie; three sons Harrison Jr.; Coffeyville; Robert, Fort Collins; Colo:; and Mason; Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Sam and John J. Brookover, both of Eureka, and George Brookover, Orangreville Ill.; two sisters, Marian Brookover, Hutchinson, and Mrs. Jim Davis, Eureka; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established in his name at the Eureka Recreation Commission.
