Corchinski, 64, Dies from Heart Attack William Harry Corchinski, 64, of Spithead Rd., Waterford, an employee of the Waterford Sanitation Department eight years, died suddenly of a heart attack at 1:45 p.m. yesterday at his home. Mr. Corchinski, husband of the former Elsie Pierce, complained of feeling tired shortly after having lunch and expired soon after lying on a couch. Waterford Medical Examiner Robert T. Henkle pronounced the cause of death. Mr. Corchinki, who was hospitalized earlier this month, had been home from the hospital two weeks. A Waterford resident of 18 years, he was born in Austria, July 22, 1891, son of Harry and Anne Corchinski, and came to this country 42 years ago. Mr. Corchinski belonged to St. Matthias' Church, Flanders. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Lloyd and Theodore Corchinski, both of this city; Robert Corchinski, Waterford, and William Corchinski, Baltimore; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Robinson of Florida and Mrs. Frances Stoeckle and Miss Sandra Corchinski, both of Waterford, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8:15 a.m. Saturday from Kelley Funeral Home, with a requiem high mass at 9 a.m. at St. Matthias' Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Notes William H. Corchinski's Petition for Naturalization was filed in the Superior Court of New London Country at Norwich. The petitioner is listed as Wasyl Korczynski and his place of residence at the time of the filing of the petition is listed as Oakdale, Connecticut. The petition lists his birthdate as July 22, 1893 and his place of birth as Korchin, Galicia, Austria. It further states that he emigrated from Bremen, Germany, on September 22, 1912, aboard the S.S. George Washington, and that he arrived at the port of New York, New York on September 29, 1912. The passenger list that has Wasyl Korczynski's name can be viewed at ellisisland.org. He declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States on August 5, 1919. The petition further sought a name change to William Corchinski. The witnesses signing the petition were Herbert G. Dart and Robert A. Teff. The petition is dated March 22, 1922 William H. Corchinski had brown hair and gray eyes. He had a scar on his left thumb and forefinger and one on the back of his left hand. His original Korczynski name in his native language would be Корчинський. The name of the town where he was from is Skole which would look like Сколе in his native language. Skole is near the Stryi River which would be spelled Стрий in his native language. Stryi means stream and it is a tributary of the Dniester River. His first name Wasyl appears to be a Polish spelling. In Ukrainian, Wasyl would be Vasyl or Вася. The name Vasyl is Latin meaning kingly. It is suspected that his full name in his native Ukranian would be Вася Корчинський. According to his obituary, his parents were Harry and Anne. It is like that his mother's name was an Americanized version of Anya which in the Ukraine would be Аня. The name Harry could be Гавриил which would translate to Gavriil. It could also be Гаврил which would be Gavril. The name Gavril is a derivative of Harold.
