Elsie Corchinski Gales Ferry - Mrs. Elsie May Corchinski, 76, of 507 Stone Court was dead on arrival at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Medical examiner Robert T. Henkle attributed death to natural causes. Mrs. Corchinski was born August 15, 1898, in Montville, the daughter of Winslow and Addie Rudd Pierce. She came to New London in 1909 and lived there until moving to Waterford in 1936. She moved to Gales Ferry in 1971 to live with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Stoeckle. She was married to William H. Corchinski May 15, 1915, in Montville. He died Dec. 7. 1955. Besides her daughter, survivors include four sons, Lloyd of New London, Robert and Theodore of Waterford and William Corchinski of Arizona; two other daughters, Mrs. Ruth Robinson of Pensacola, Fla. and Mrs. Sandra Kopp of Niantic; a brother, Arthur Pierce of Salem; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Prayer services will be conducted at 10:20 a.m. Thursday at the Kelley-Bernier & Freemont Funeral Home, New London. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery there. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight. Notes Elsie Mae Pierce Corchinski's family traces its roots directly back to Mayflower passenger William Bradford who later became the first governor of Massachusetts. She was also a direct descendant of Jonathan Rudd who was married at Bride Brook in 1646. Her cousins include Gov. Hiram Bingham, Pres. Millard Fillmore and Supreme Court Justice David Souter.
