Although ill so long, Mr. Smith had been bedfast but a week. Diabetes was the cause of his death. He was 54 years and nine days of age. Harvey Smith was born in Monona County, Iowa, November 30, 1879. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith. His father passed away five years ago. He grew to manhood at Boone, Iowa, and in the year 1901 was united in marriage with Lurie Adel Smith of Lehigh, Iowa. They came to Nebraska and have since resided in Nebraska and Kansas. To this union were born ten children. The eldest daughter, Vera Fay, died in infancy. those left to mourn the departure of husband and father are: Mrs. Melvin Montague of Beattie; Mrs. Adolph Stehlik, Table Rock, Neb.; Clarence Smith of DuBois; Mrs. Arthur Lindeen, of Baileyville; Archer, Floyd, Anna, Raymond and Marjorie, all of the home. He also leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Fred Smith of Liberty, Nebraska; two brothers, Arthur of Liberty, Nebraska; and Clyde Smith of Norton, Kansas; and seven grandchildren. Short funeral services were held at the home by Rev. Eckert of Beattie. The procession then went to Liberty, where services were held at the Christian Church at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. J.P. Reel, pastor of the Church, assisted by Rev. Eckert. Burial was made in the Liberty Cemetery. (From the Liberty Journal, Nov. 16, 1933.) "'Tis religion that can give Sweetest pleasures while we live; 'Tis religion that gives us solid comfort when we die."--The Harvey Smith family came to Liberty, Nebraska in December of 1911 from western Kansas, to which area they had migrated prior to April of 1907. Harvey was a farmer and stonemason. He built many buildings in western and northeastern Kansas. (Archer Smith)
