Mr. Chapman has been in poor health and an intense sufferer for years, still his death was unlooked for by those who knew him best. He always manifested an earnest Christian spirit, always worked in the church and Sunday school while his health permitted and always held up his Savior before his family as an example worthy to be followed by them. He was unusually kind and patient during his last illness always wanting his dear wife near him. His only wish was to be at rest in Jesus. His children were all with him from time to time and they received many words of advice, and his earnest prayer that they should strive to meet him in the world that knows no suffering or feels no pain. The deceased was born in Chenango Co., New York, Jan. 12th, 1830, and died in Cedar Co., Iowa, February 2nd, 1895. He was united in marriage twice, leaving a daughter, Mrs. Lulu Hubble, of New York, to mourn his death from his first union. He afterwards married Miss Elizabeth Weston on January 28th, 1863. To this union were born eleven children, six sons and five daughters, all of whom were here to mourn the loss of their beloved father. The services were conducted at the Eureka church, Rev. Martin officiating. The remains were carried to the cemetery at the Pleasant Prairie school house where they were laid to rest.
