Ebert Sr. was born in Oak Park, Ill., Nov. 22, 1850 and died at his home in Sutton May 23, 1941, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 1 day. His parents were Benjamin and Loretta [sic] Ebert, both of whom were natives of Germany. He received his education in the schools of Illinois. In 1875 he was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Augusta Faught [sic] , to which union seven children were born: four sons, George B., William Jr., Edward P., and Frederick S., all of Sutton; and three daughters, Rosa Stover and Ella of Sutton and Emma Ostrom of Lincoln. His wife passed away in 1909. Mr. Ebert was one of the sturdy pioneers who made Nebraska what it is today, coming to Nebraska in 1878 and homesteading south of Sutton. He brought his lumber and carpenters from Illinois with him, also the trees that make the large grove north of his country home. The Eberts were instrumental in establishing the Salem Evangelical church in Sutton, his father, presenting the bell and the first funeral for which it tolled was his in 1895 and 56 years later tolled for his son's funeral. Mr. Ebert was a charter member of the church and was faithful in his attendance and support of the church. In 1911 he retired from the farm and moved to Sutton where he lived until his death. He took an active part in civic life, and was a trustee of the Sutton Cemetery Board at the time of his death. He will be greatly missed in the home, church and community. Mr. Ebert's going was a perfect ending of a wonderful life. He worked in his garden that morning and in the afternoon was down town, and passed away about twenty minutes after his return home. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Salem Evangelical church with Rev. A. Langenberg officiating assisted by Rev. W. H. Wright of the Federated church. Those attending from out of town were Arthur Noester, Mrs. Emma McCroy and Mrs. John Heckensweiler of Oak Park, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Ostrom, Mr. and Mrs. Watson Kyles and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Merril of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Thelander Geneva; Miss Lois Ebert, Cody, Wyo.; T.
