Sherwood, for many years the accommodating mail carrier on rural route No. 3 out of Victor, died at his home here Thursday evening about 8:30 o'clock. Death came peacefully after a long illness. He was 43 years of age. Mr. Sherwood was born on a farm two miles north of Victor on March 13, 1884. His early life was spent on the farm and he attended the country schools, at the age of 13 entering the Victor schools, from which he graduated 1903. On Aug. 19, 1908, at Omaha, Nebr., he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Wallick, daughter of the late Charles Wallick, pioneer settler. To this union were born five children - Margaret, Helen, Frances, Norma and Howard. He is survived by his widow and five children, and a brother Charles of Victor, and two sisters, Mrs. Nora Morris of Mason City and Mrs. Thomas Scandridge of Williamsburg. Over 20 years ago Mr. Sherwood was appointed a mailer carrier on one of the largest routes of the postal department, and in fair weather and foul he served the patrons faithfully and efficiently. He made many warm friends while thus engaged, and the appreciation of the patrons of the route was shown him and his family by many kindnesses. He was a member of the Methodist church for many years and while in good health assisted in the choir and orchestra, also teaching a class of boys. He also took a prominent part in the musical life of the town and was a leader of the band until his health caused him to give up the work he loved. During the past months while confined to his home he tried to instill into the hearts and minds of his children all that was good and upright, and they will ever feel his influence for good over them. Always standing for the teachings of his Savior, his life will leave an impression on all who have come in contact with him. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. O. E. McBride. The church was filled with friends who came to pay their respects and the inclement weather and bad roads prevented many of his friends from the country from being present. The Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member, attended in body and had charge of the services at the cemetery.
