For a time he apparently had recovered from a serious illness of some months ago sufficiently to get about and only recently had his condition changed. The end came quickly Wednesday night. Will was the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Durstine. He was born July 2. 1883 at Mt. Pleasant in Westmoreland County Pa. When he was a year and a half old the family came to Norton county and in 1895 to Sabetha which has since been his home. He was married April 22, 1906 to Miss Llu Kirkpatrick of Sabetha. To this union were born two daughters, Donna, Mrs. Wendall Tyler, and Dana, Mrs. Leland Stevens. Early in his young manhood Will learned the carpenter trade and except for a few years he was employed by the telephone company he has worked diligently at all kinds of construction work from delicate machine tooled work to construction of houses and business buildings including the Baptist church. He took great pride in his work and spent long hours of each day working and planning the buildings he erected. For many years he has placed practically all of the plate glass windows on Sabetha Main street. For 45 years he was a member of the Sabetha Fire Company and assisted in fighting many of the major fires as well as many minor ones. He was a member of the Sabetha Methodist church and not only attended its services but saw to it that his wife could attend choir practice and other members of the family be in any service they desired to attend. His family and home came first in his interest. His special pride was in his grandchildren. Their accomplishments brought him great joy and doing something for them was his greatest pleasure. Will Durstine processed a never failing sense of humor, even in his illness he tried to cheer his family and friends. He was civic minded and proud of his home town and did his share to keep up appearances of property and streets. Will Durstine was happiest when he was busy, in fact, he was never idle. His desires to be busy, took its toll of his physical strength but none would deny him the joy his industry brought to him. Until illness came last winter Will Durstine was always one of the first on duty each morning. His cheery greeting has been missed in recent months and will continue to be missed not only by the early workers but by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, his two daughters, their husbands, three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Chandler, Mrs. Grace Moser and Mrs. Olive Boyd of Omaha, Neb., one brother, Ralph Durstine of Texas, one nephew, two nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock in the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Sterling. Interment was in Sabetha Cemetery.
