Williams, who retired six years ago after being in the banking business in several Montana cities, died unexpectedly Friday in a Fort Benton hospital after suffering a stroke. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 6, 1903 near the historic mining town of Marysville. His parents, Thomas and Ellen Williams were pioneer settlers of this area. He started his extensive career in banking as a messenger for the old Conrad Bank of Helena at the age of 15. In 1929 when Helena banks merged he became a teller for the Montana Trust and Savings Bank and later was with the First National Bank of Helena until 1932 when he transferred to National Park Bank in Livingston. In Miles City from 1935 to 1941 he was cashier of the First National Bank, and later became assistant cashier of the First National Bank in Great Falls. In the 1950’s he accepted the presidency and managership of the First Chouteau County Bank in Fort Benton, the position he held until retiring in July 1959. He married Millie Morris July 19, 1930 in Missoula. He was a member of the Benton Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Great Falls. In addition to his widow he is survived by a son, Donald Williams of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Thomas E. Williams, Captain of the Helena Fire Department and Ralph W. Williams of Helena; sisters, Mrs. Herman Topel, Great Falls and Mrs. John (Alice) Milch of Helena; and one grandchild.
