Lead Daily Call newspaper, August 11, 1924 - "Old Hills Resident Killed By Hayrake on Montana Ranch. Will Campbell meets Horrible Death When Horses Run Away; Was Well Known Here Through Visits With Two Daughters. Gored to unconsciousness, with death resulting shortly afterward, Will Campbell, old time resident of the Black Hills, met a horrible end on his ranch at Albion, Mont., last Saturday. The body was brought to Lead, and interment will be made here from the Rounsevell mortuary tomorrow afternoon. According to reports here, Campbell was driving a hayrake when the tongue broke and the team ran away. Though several men were in the field at the time, the horses dragged Mr. Campbell a half mile before stopped. Thinking they detected faint heart beats, the men rushed the body to Camp Crook for the attendance of a physician but life had expired before they arrived. After a residence in the Black Hills, of 25 or 30 years, 14 years of which were spent at Custer, Mr. Campbell moved to the ranch near Albion about eight years ago. He was well known in Lead through his frequent visits here. He was 68 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by six daughers: Mrs. Mary Wilson of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Zoe Clem, Albion, Mont.; Mrs. Mary King of Deadwood, Mrs. Leta Book, of Denver, Mrs. Zelma Eyster of Lead, Mrs. Hazel Eyster of Lead." Lead Daily Call, August 12, 1924 - "Victim of Accident Is Buried in Lead Today. Short but impressive funeral services were conducted a the Rounsevell mortuary this afternoon at 2:30 for William Campbell, the unfortunate victime of Saturday's Montana accident, by Rev. N.L. Haney, of the Baptist church. Many friends of the deceased and his daughters' families were in attendance. Interment was made in the municipal cemetery in South Lead."
