Casket bearers were Earl Means, Richard Beckett, Stanley Schafer, Arthur Windom, Paul Northup, and Vernon Mainquist. Interment was in Nodaway Cemetery, with Wolfe Funeral Home in charge. William Hyde Taylor, son of Jerry and Mary Margaret Hyde Taylor, was born November 19, 1873, at Villisca, Iowa and passed away at the Villisca Nursing Home on December 7, 1963, at the age of 92 years, after an extended illness during which time his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson of Corning helped faithfully to care for him and his home. When he was six weeks of age, his parents moved to Western Kansas, where they lived for seven years, Then they moved to Summerville, Ohio, for one year, before returning to Villisca, where they remained. Mr. Taylor finished his education in the local rural schools. On January 30, 1898, he was united in marriage to Lottie May Sabin, and the home was established on a farm south of Nodaway. To this union two daughters were born. On November 28, 1900, his wife died and he and his family moved into the home of his parents nearby. For ten years he engaged in the restaurant business and for 16 years he was a trucker. On November 11, 1944, he and his daughter Gladys, moved to their present home on High Street in Villisca, where MR. Taylor continued to make life as comfortable and pleasant as possible for his daughter. For many years as a young man, he was well known as an excellent baseball player. He held the local home run record, and was a good first baseman. He was known every where by his nickname, “Tete”, Mr. Taylor joined the Nodaway Methodist Church in his youth and was a deeply religious man. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in-depth by five brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Gladys Leona Taylor, Villisca, and Lottie May Schaffer, Cheyenne, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Jean Ross, New York City, New York, Addison Cook, Omaha, Nebraska, and J. D. Schaffer, Cheyenne, Wyoming; one sister, Mrs. Lotus Mainquist, who in recent years made her home with Mr. Taylor, one brother, Martin Taylor, and his wife, Florence, who lived next door, and were so helpful in many ways, and four nieces and 2 nephews, other relatives and many friends.
