Barloon, 76, Carroll businessman and former Carroll County superintendent of schools, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on the lawn of his home at 2 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's church, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P.T. Lynch offering requiem mass. Members of the Carroll Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, will attend the rites in a group. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The body is resting at the Sharp Funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight. At 8 p.m. Wednesday, Msgr. Lynch will lead the prayers and at 8:30 p.m. members of Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus, will pray the rosary in a group. Members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand as a guard of honor at the casket from 7:30 to 9 o'clock Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the funeral home. Mr. Barloon, son of John and Anna Barloon, was born Sept 5, 1875, at Fort Atkinson, Ia. He was married June 19, 1900, at St Joseph's church here to Mary Ellen Ryan. The Rev. Fr. Phelan officiated. Mrs. Barloon died March 23, 1937. Surviving children are: Wilbur J., Davenport; Marvin J., Cleveland, Ohio; Patricia, Muscatine, Ia., and Mrs. Louis J. Timmerman (Camilla), Auburn. Mr. Barloon also leaves nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Frank Barloon, Fort Atkinson, Ia.; and one sister, Mrs. Tuck, Oklahoma City, Okla. His parents, two brothers and five sisters are deceased. After completing the rural schools of Winneshiek county, Ia., Mr. Barloon attended Valder Business college at Decorah. In 1896, he entered Iowa State college, Cedar Palls, from which he was graduated with honors in 1899. Going into public school work, he became principal of the public school at Ossian, Ia., in September, 1899. In 1901 he took over the principalship of the public school at Breda. He was elected Carroll county superintendant of schools in 1903 holding that position for 5 years. In 1908, he moved to Armour, S.D., where he organized and operated the Farmers & Merchants Savings bank. Returning to Carroll in 1915, he entered the abstract, insurance, and collection business, in which he was active until the time of his death.
