Ray Rites Held April 17 At Fraser William Ray, son of John W. and Marianne Ray, was born October 5, 1873 in Boone County Iowa. He departed this life on April 13, 1943 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. N. Carlstrand near Boone at the age of 69 years, six months and eight days following a protracted illness of many weeks. Mr. Ray attended the country schools, farmed and also mined when not busy farming. He was united in marriage to Amy Harris, February 12, 1895. Thirteen children came to bless this home, one little one slipped away to be with his Lord in infancy, the others grew to manhood and womanhood in Boone County. They are: Mrs. Belva Carlstrand, Mrs. Blanche Phipps, Donald, Paul, Elmer and Everett Ray, all of Boone; Mrs. Zetta Johnson and Mrs. Beulah Zunkel of Ogden, V. C. Ray of Jewell, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Jones of Ames; Lloyd of Stanhope and Mrs. Fern Hickman or Hawthorne, California. Following their marriage, they made their home in Fraser, spent one year in Colorado, returning to Boone County where the settled on a farm. They made their home there until the failing health of his wife when they moved to Boone. She passed away April 26, 1940. While he never affiliated with any religious group, yet he was generous in contributing to the various churches where his wife and children were actively engaged. At the erection of both the Fraser and Four Corners churches, he contributed liberally. He leaves to mourn his children, thirty-four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Samuel Pritchard of Milton, Iowa, two brothers, Alvin of Fraser and John of Cedar Rapids and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at Fraser Saturday, April 17 with the Rev. N. A. Hollinghead of the Battin U. B. Church of Ogden officiating. Burial was made at the Mineral Ridge cemetery.
