Sterling, one of the old and most highly respected citizens of Crisfield, died at his home on Second Street Sunday afternoon from a complication of diseases. About six years ago he was accidentally hit in the stomach with a hatchet. Appendicitis developed, requiring an operation which was successful. However, he sustained other injuries from which he never fully recovered. He was a member of Immanuel M. E. church and a consistent Christian gentleman. He was of a quiet and unassuming disposition and numbered his friends by the score. To each of these his death brought genuine regret and came as a distinct personal loss. He was nearing his seventy-seventh birthday and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rebecca Sterling, to whom he was married nearly fifty years ago; three sons, William O. Sterling, of Chester, Elmer Sterling of Church Hill and Alonzo Sterling, of Chestertown; two daughters, Mrs. L. D. Disharoon, of Crisfield, and Mrs. John F. Disharoon, of Delmar; and two sisters, Mrs. T. J. Whittington and Mrs. E. E. Moore, both of Crisfield.
