"Joe" Shea, 73, died Friday night, November 19, 1954 in Cherokee after a lingering illness. He was a retired railroad engineer. The Cherokee Times, Monday, June 26, 1911 At the Immaculate Conception church in this city this Monday morning, Joe Shea (30), son of Dennis and Nora (Burke) Shea and Miss Agnes Mae Trainor (27), daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann (Smith) Trainor were married. The young couple has lived in Cherokee all their lives and have a host of friends who will wish them much success in their married life. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father McCarthy. Mr. Shea is an engineer on the Illinois Central Railroad. The couple will go to Chicago and New Orleans on their wedding trip. Mrs. Shea died at St. Bernard's Hospital at Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 22, 1922. She was 37 years of age. The 1930 US census shows William J. Shea (49) a widowed Railroad engineer with his daughters Norrine (15), Marjory (13) and Marilyn (7) living at 125 Cherry Street in Cherokee. Mr. Shea is survived by three daughters; Miss Norrine Shea of Spencer, Marjory, Mrs. James G. McCulla of Chicago and Marilyn, Mrs. Crowley L. Spindler of Galva. One brother, Edward Shea of Cedar Rapids, and one sister, Catherine, Mrs. William F. Bowen of Cherokee, also survive him, in addition to four grandchildren. An infant son was born and died about 1920. The funeral mass is to be at 9:45 a. m. Monday, November 22, at Immaculate Conception church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, Father L. J. Lynch will officiate. The rosary will be recited at Greenwood Funeral home at 8:30 p. m. Saturday. Joe and Mary Shea's grandchildren and birth are; Edward J. Spindler, Feb 1945 James L.
