Description	:	William J. "Bill" Toroni passed away at his residence in Beatrice, CA, the afternoon of January 10, 2003, at the age of 81 with his faithful companion, "Lassie," at his bedside. Bill was born on February 8, 1921, and lived most of his life on the family ranch. Although his death was sudden and unexpected, he had been fighting complications that set in after a December hospitalization for heart problems. "Bill" Toroni passed away at his residence in Beatrice, CA, the afternoon of January 10, 2003, at the age of 81 with his faithful companion, "Lassie," at his bedside. Bill was born on February 8, 1921, and lived most of his life on the family ranch. Although his death was sudden and unexpected, he had been fighting complications that set in after a December hospitalization for heart problems. Billy is survived by two brothers and their spouses, Leland and Marlene, and Lindo and Grace. Also surviving him are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Billy attended Salmon Creek Elementary School and graduated from Eureka High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army-Infantry Division and was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. Bill was part of the Campaign of Western Europe and was wounded in action. He received the Purple Heart among other honors for his valor. Billy made many friends and acquaintances throughout the years including his morning coffee group at the Bayshore Mall. He loved to make the rounds in town, shopping at Winco, Costco, Rite-Aid, and St. Vincent De Paul's, to name a few. He enjoyed eating at Hometown Buffet whenever someone would take him. For many years, he raised a large garden sharing his produce with all, especially those "zucchini's"! Most recently new people came into his home via Home Health and Autumn's Age Home Care. His health care was taken care of for many years at the Fortuna Family Medical Group by Corinne Thomas, FNP, and more recently by Fawnette Downey, FNP. He always felt these ladies knew more than the Doctors. He liked to refer to himself as "Dr. Bill" and often did with people close to him. The family will honor Bill's request that there be no services and he be laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery on Table Bluff along side other family members. He will take with him his "white cowboy hat" and his "blue jacket" that says, "There Goes One Of The Good Guys With The White Hat." Please take the time after this week to visit the graveside, bring your cup of coffee, and just "shoot the breeze" with him. He will be missed.
