Mr. Mundschenk was born April 21, 1914, on a farm about 5 miles northeast of Albion to Frank and Anna (Krohn) Mundschenk. In the spring of 1917, his family moved to a farm 4 miles southeast of Petersburg. He attended District 56 School. He then worked with his father farming and doing carpentry work. In the spring of 1934, he moved to Illinois, eventually becoming half-owner in the Graymont Hardware and Plumbing Co. and part of a building construction crew. In February 1942, he joined the U.S. Air Corps and served as a flight engineer in the South Pacific. On June 16, 1946, he married Iva Margaret Haas at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. They lived in Graymont until March 1954 when he sold his interest in the hardware company and purchased a farm southwest of Albion. After farming a few years he went back into construction and worked in and around Albion full time as a general contractor, electrician and plumber. In December 1961, they moved to a house in Albion. He was instrumental in helping establish the Boone County Senior Citizens, Boone County Historical Society and a local stamp club. He also served on the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center board for at least 26 years and on the Albion City Council for eight years, a portion of which he served as president and acting mayor. He also served on the Albion Adjusting Board, the Medical Area Developmental Board and the Boone County Noxious Weed Board. He was an active member of Kiwanis and served three terms as lieutenant governor for his district. He was also active in the Lutheran church, serving on committees and as superintendent of the Sunday School while in Illinois and on the building committee and other committees in Albion. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jane, of Aberdeen, S.D.; seven brothers, Lenard of Rowley, Iowa; Walter of Graymont, Ill., Kenneth of Flanagan, Ill., Robert, Frank Jr. and Julius, all of Albion and Harold of Ngaoundere, Cameroon, Africa; and four sisters, Josephine Mundschenk of San Diego, Calif., Emma Kennedy of Pontiac, Ill., Catherine Pyka of Martinez, Calif., and Elsie Wheeler of Albion. He was preceded in death by one brother, John.
