Description	:	William H. Kleinschmidt was born in Culbertson, Nebraska in 1889 [sic], at which place he lived with his parents until he was about 17 years old, when they moved to Sutton, Nebraska from which place he moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, about four years ago. He was drownded in the Snake river near Blackfoot, July 21, 1915. In 1910 he was married to Miss Mildred Johnson. To this union were born two children, Harold William and Viola Mildred. He was drownded in the Snake river near Blackfoot, July 21, 1915. In 1910 he was married to Miss Mildred Johnson. To this union were born two children, Harold William and Viola Mildred. At the time of his death Mr. Kleinschmidt, with others, was working on the head gate of the Lava Side canal. The boat on which they were hauling rock, seeminly too heavily loaded was partly submerged and the men on board leaped into the water. As Mr. Kleinschmidt jumped he said, "My God, boys, I cannot swim." He arose twice but all efforts to save him from drowning were, it seemed, in vain. It seemed God's will and nothing could be done. Efforts were at once begun in every conceivable way to recover the body, thinking that even after three or four hours they might yet be able to save him, but it was about 51 hours before the body was recovered. At times there were as many as 50 men working in the river bending every muscle, sparing neither time nor expense to recover one who had indeed been a friend and neighbor. The funeral services were held from the home, five miles west of Blackfoot, Sunday, the Rev. Austin having charge in the absence of his own pastor, Rev. Barnstable. The remains were shipped to Sutton, Nebraska, the same day for burial. Mrs. Sack, mother of the deceased and Mr. Johnson, father of Mrs. Kleinschmidt, were present, arriving the same night that the body was recovered and returning home Sunday with the remains. Mr. Kleinschmidt was a most energetic and ambitious man, honest to the extreme. His word being as good as the deed completed. He was especially fond of his home and family, being always on the watch to add some little pleasure or comfort to his loved ones. He had recently cared most tenderly for Mrs. Kleinschmidt through an operated which has left her in a very weakened condition. He leaves to mourn him a wife, two children, an aged mother, one brother and four sisters, together with a numberless host of friends. - Contributed. He was on a boat loaded with rock which they were taking out to dump into the river when the boat, or raft dipped badly and all the men jumped into the water. It is said that three of them could not swim and the water was about 15 feet deep. Two of them grabbed a floating plank and made a landing about a 1000 feet down stream, five others swam out, and Mr. Kleinschmidt failed get out. All efforts to recover the body have failed. Mr. Kleinschmidt is under 30 years of age, and leaves a wife and two children. He came here four years ago last winter, and has been farming Jacob Gushwa's place this season. On the day of the fatal accident he was working with his neighbors in the stream building a dam, and his wife and children were to drive to the dam at noon with the dinner and they were all to eat together on the river bank.
