Lee Larkins, son of Herbert C. and Rebecca Salisbury Larkins, was born on November 9, 1890, in Liberty Township in Republic County, Kansas and passed away on February 28, 1980, at St. Joseph Hospital at Concordia, Kansas, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 19 days. Lee, at the age of 4, moved with his family to Lincoln township (sic) in south part of Republic County, where he attended Rural School District No. 81. Lee Larkins, son of Herbert C. and Rebecca Salisbury Larkins, was born on November 9, 1890, in Liberty Township in Republic County, Kansas and passed away on February 28, 1980, at St. Joseph Hospital at Concordia, Kansas, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 19 days. Lee, at the age of 4, moved with his family to Lincoln township (sic) in south part of Republic County, where he attended Rural School District No. 81. Lee moved back to the Chester area in 1908, where he worked as a blacksmith. He was united in marriage to Christena Crouse on January 20, 1914, and to this union 5 daughters and 1 son were born. He lived on a farm south of Chester from 1914 to 1941. He owned and operated his own Steam Threshing Machine. He was accepted into the National Thresherman's Hall of Fame in June of 1979. He became a member of the Church of Christ in 1914 of Chester, Nebraska. He also attended church in Concordia during his younger years. He joined the Masonic Lodge on December 16, 1918. Lee and his wife, Christena celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January of 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Christena on November 23, 1979, one daughter, Ella Smith, three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by one son, Willard Larkins and his wife, Wilma of Concordia, Kansas; four daughters, Miss Evelyn Larkins, and Mrs. Lad (Shirley) Walta, both of Concordia; Mrs. Leonard (Hazel) Pleis, of Aurora, Co.; Mrs. Lawrence (Fay) Tiemeyer of Braddyville, Iowa; one brother, Vern and his wife, Helen of Western, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, 1980, at 2:00 pm at the Chester Church of Christ conducted by the Minister, Lacey Joiner. Masonic services were conducted by the Chester Lodge No. 298 AF & AM of Chester. Interment was made in Chester Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Richard George, Earnest Dunn, Walter Torring, Neal Eickman, Wilbert Crouse and Harold Crouse. Honorary Casket Bearers were Merle Hayes, Joe Duey, Harmon Gilkeson, Norman Crounse, Dolan Frye, William Thompson, Clarence Palmer, and Jean Thompson. The singers were Mrs. Wilbert Crouse and Mrs. Bruce Wilhelms accompanied by Mrs. Harold Crouse.
