Description	:	Mr. William "Leo" Mayes, age 96, born May 2, 1918 of Cana, VA, passed away May 21, 2014 at his home leaving behind the love of his life of 78 years Gracie B. Easter Mayes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He loved his gardening, his dog Smiley, walking, reading and his churches, Chestnut Grove and Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. He was retired from Ararat Rock Inc. in Mount Airy, NC. Bennett Jr. of King, NC; three sons & daughters-in-law, Alvin & Lois Mayes of Cana, VA, Roy & Peggy Mayes of Cana, VA and Lacy & Charlotte Mayes of Cana, VA; nineteen grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren & four sisters, Mrs. Carrie Mayes Easter of Mount Airy, NC, Miss Hazel Mayes Woods of Cana, VA, Mrs. Jeanette Mayes Easter of Mount Airy, NC and Mrs. Lola Mayes Johnson of Cana, VA. Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy Jacob Mayes & Novella Stanley Mayes; daughter, Faye Spencer Lowe; three grandsons, Edmond Dwayne Mayes, Randall Lee Spencer & Marty Ray Spencer; one infant granddaughter, Sharon Faye Spencer; an infant twin brother, three brothers, Thad, Frank & Bud Mayes and three sons-in-law, Jim Lowe, Bobby Spencer and Joe Haynes. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Elder David Edwards, Elder Sam Edwards, Elder Arwood Edwards and Elder Rodney Marshall with interment to follow at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
