Jefferson Herald - Thursday, February 20, 1930 - Will Maloney, former pioneer resident of Greene county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jenny Horrigan, at Grand Island, Neb., last week. Funeral services were held in Scranton at the Catholic church Saturday morning with burial in the Willow cemetery. Mr Maloney was one of the first settlers in this community and was one of the bet farmers in this vicinity. After leaving here he moved to North Platte, NE where he lived for some time. Later he removed to Grand Island where he has been living with is daughter. He had been in ill health for several months and passed away Thursday, Feb. 13. He was the oldest of the eight children, being eighty years of age at the time of his death. His brother, George Maloney, is the only member of the family living in this locality. Jefferson Bee - Wednesday, February 26, 1930 - Of special interest to many old residents of Greene county was the death of Wm. Maloney, which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Maloney Horrigan, in Grand Island, Nebr., on Feb. 13, 1930 at the age of 82 years. Mr. Maloney became a resident of Greene county in 1871, and was married to Miss Nora Barrow in 1875 on March 30th. They resided on a farm in Jackson township for six years and then moved to a farm in Greenbrier township, where they resided for 18 years, then moved to North Platte, Nebraska, on account of ill health in the family. In the next few years two of his boys died there and were brought to the old home for burial. The youngest boy, Wm. R., went into business there and the daughter married and afterwards moved to Grand Island, Nebr., and shortly thereafter her mother and father moved there to make their home with her, where everything that a loving heart and willing hand could do was done to make their declining years restful and pleasant for them. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary there on March 30, 1925 assisted by their children and grandchildren, and open house in the afternoon and evening to friends and relatives. His wife, who was in frail health, passed away Sept. 11, 1927. Mr. Maloney was blessed with a pleasant, sunny disposition and readily made friends wherever he went, he will be greatly missed and sincerely mourned outside the family circle as well as within. His devotion and sincerity were his outstanding virtues, and made him a friend to all who knew him. His funeral occurred from St. Paul's Catholic church at Scranton Saturday, Rev. Fr. Mason officiating at Requiem Mass. He was a member of the Catholic church and of the Knights of Columbus at Grand Island. His mortal remains were taken to the Willow township cemetery and tenderly laid to rest by the side of his wife and two sons, George and Charles, who preceded him in death. The floral offerings were most beautiful. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J.J. Horrigan and her husband and their two children, Paul and Veronica, and also one son, Wm. R. Maloney and his wife and their daughter, Maureen.
