Mr Maloney had been ill for some time with a serious heart ailment. Surviving is a daughter, Maureen. He was born Sept.18, 1883 at Jefferson, Ia., the son of Mr and Mrs William Maloney. He was educated at the Coll Mortuary Science at St.Louis, Mo, and came to North Platte in 1898. He became a member of the firm Howe and Maloney in 1907. From 1912 to 1930 he was owner and manager of the W.R.Maloney Co. Since 1930 he had been president of the W.R.Maloney Co., Inc., owners of the Maloney-Cox-Kuhns Funeral Chapel. One of the leading exponents of the organization of Nebraska's hydro-electric districts, he was an original director of the Platte Valley Public Power and Irrigation districts. For 22 years, Mr Maloney was a member of the state examining board for embalmers. In 1930 he was named as master Merchant of Nebraska by the Nebraska Federation of Retailers; and in 1937, he was named as outstanding funeral director by the National Funeral Directors Association. An incorporator of the Great Plains Hospital board, he was instrumental in the building of St.Mary hospital. In September of 1939, by popular vote, he was chosen king of the Lincoln Fall Festival. Mr. Maloney was vice president and director of the First National bank , director of the North Platte Mutual Building and Loan Association, director of the North Platte Cemetery board, past director of the chamber of commerce, a charter member and past president of the Rotary club, a charter member of the B.P.O.E, a member of the U.C.T., Yeoman and Lincoln County Wildlife clubs, a charter member of the North Platte Country Club, past president of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Catholic church. The Rev. Patrick McDaid will officiate at the funeral. The remains will be taken to the Maloney home at 5 p.m. Sunday and that evening members of the Altar society will hold a recitation of the rosary there. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
