William Milan "Big Dude" Gettys (February 20, 1953 - October 23, 2015 ) Milan “Big Dude” Gettys Gaffney, SC - - William Milan “Big Dude” Gettys, 62, of 190 Whispering Pines Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Medical University of South Carolina. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Stephanie Stevenson Gettys and the son of the late William Arthur Gettys, Jr. and Margaret Lemmons Gettys Robbs. He was retired from Johns Manville and a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Limestone College, where he was a player/coach of the 1984 NAIA National Championship Golf Team and was also, inducted in the Hall of Fame. He was a member of Cherokee National Golf Club, was an avid golfer and loved to cook. In addition to his wife, also surviving is a son, Jeffrey Gettys of Gaffney; two daughters, Kristin Gettys Irish and husband, David of Lewiston, Idaho and Samantha Gettys Humphries and husband, Bobby of Gaffney; a brother, Tony Madison Gettys and special friend, Marcia of Gaffney; two sisters, Gay Gettys Guthrie and Lorrie Gettys Morris and husband, Dr. Bob, both of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Chase Gettys, Brandon Gettys, Nora Irish, Alayna Harris, Ariana Harris and Caidan Humphries; two nieces, Callie Smith and husband, Jeremy and Kate Guthrie; three nephews, Mac Morrow and wife, Andi, David Gettys and wife, Charlotte and Marc Gettys; several great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Gettys was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Timothy Scott Guthrie. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Grassy Pond Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Lanford, Reverend Scott Hammett and Mr. Randy Hines officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at Cherokee National Golf Club.
