Mayfield, age 64 yrs. died at his home on "B" street at the Bogon Mills Village yesterday afternoon at 7:15 o'clock after an illness of three weeks. The funeral will be conducted from the Second Baptist Church, of which Mr. Mayfield was a member and officer, at 3'oclock tomorrow afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Mayfield came to Anderson, SC about 10 years ago from the Beaver Dam section of the county and was engaged at his trade as a carpenter. Before coming here he was a member and deacon of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church and joined the Second Church here soon after his arrival. He was a conscientious Christian man, and had many friends who sympathize deeply with the bereaved family. Mr Mayfield was twice married, his first wife being Miss Sallie Henderson of this county. Of this union the following children survive, Mrs. W. P. Brooks, and Misters Dan and Julius Mayfield, all of this city. In 1890, Mr. Mayfield married Miss Verona Broome, daughter of the late Captain William Broome of this county and of this union there are now six children living. Mrs. Tallulah Jenkins of Georgia, Mrs. Tom Brooks of Iva, Mrs. Effie Carter, Mrs. Jim White, Miss Vera Mayfield and Ira Mayfield, all of this city. Mr Mayfield enlisted in the Confederate cause soon after the war was begun and served throughout the four years with the exception of about six months during which time he was held prisoner by the Northern solidiers at Rock Island, Il. In the last county campaign Mr. Mayfield was a candidate for coroner and received a handsome vote. He was in the second race with Mr. J. N. Beasley, and lost out by a small majority. Mr. Mayfield was a member of Sterling Lodge No. 44, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Furneral services will be conducted by the members of the order."
