Hourigan, retired Geneva business man, passed away at the Thayer County Memorial hospital at Hebron, Wednesday morning, March 20, 1957. He had been in ill health for some time and was taken to the hospital a few days before his death when his condition became critical. Mr. Hourigan was born near Geneva, Neb., August 24, 1888. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Hourigan Sr., pioneer settlers in Madison township. William grew up in Geneva and attended school here, graduating with the class of 1907. Mr. Hourigan was married to Miss Mabel Benson of Geneva, June 18, 1913. To this union were born three children, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Hourigan were in the restaurant business 27 years, all of this time in Geneva, except for a few months at Crete. During all his years in business Mr. Hourigan operated a business that was popular with the public. His genial disposition and keen wit endeared him to all. During high school days he was active in all school sports. The deceased is survived by his wife, a daughter, Constance, Mrs. Earl Ford of Kennett Square, Pa., son-in-law and two grandchildren, also two brothers, Charles M. of Denver and Tim of Geneva, and a sister Kate of Geneva. The Rosary was recited at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic church in Geneva at 9:30 a. m. Friday, March 22. Rev. Paul Ulenberg officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. J. Q. Adams, Donald Battle, Lawrence Doud, Frank Hrubesky, John Koehler and Carl Schneider.
