He died Monday, October 30, 1961, at Denver, Col., at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 17 days. Hourigan, son of Timothy and Bridget Hourigan, was born September 13, 1875, in New York state. He died Monday, October 30, 1961, at Denver, Col., at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 17 days. At an early age the deceased accompanied his family to Nebraska where they settled in Fillmore county near Exeter. February 18, 1903, he was married to Mary Murphy of Exeter. They farmed five years with his brother Jack on the Timothy Hourigan farm near Burress, moving to Geneva in 1908. To this union were born five children, Marguerite (Mrs. Golie Swails) who passed away in 1944, Kathleen (Mrs. Archie Wendell) of Denver, Geraldine of Denver, Jean(Mrs. Fred Ekeler) of Exeter and Charles P. Hourigan of York. After moving to Geneva, Mr. Hourigan operated a grocery store with the late W. H. Sisler. He later entered the oil distribution and sale business, which business he operated until his retirement following his wife’s death November 5, 1955. Following the death of his wife and his retirement he moved to Denver where he made his home with his daughter Geraldine. He made frequent trips to Geneva and Exeter to visit relatives and friends. He visited Fillmore county only a few weeks prior to his unexpected death. Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine and Mrs. Archie Wendell of Denver and Mrs. Red Ekeler of Exeter, his son, Charles of York, a brother, Timothy of Geneva, a sister, Miss Kate Hourigan of Geneva, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Marguerite Swails, a sister who died in infancy and five brothers, Francis, William P., Tom, Matthew and Jack. Funeral services were held Friday, November 3, 1961 at 10 a. m. at St. Joseph Church in Geneva with Rev. Paul Ulenberg officiating. Pallbearers were Ray L. Cellar, Linus Kamler, Carl Schneider, Lawrence Doud, Ed McCluskey and Fred Waltemade. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal November 16th, 1961 page 9.
