| Description | : | William suffered an injury to one knee while in the Army. In 1899 this began causing trouble. Dr. Hopeman of Minden and Dr. Birely of Franklin did a very poor job of amputating the leg and infection caused his death on October 16, 1899. He was buried at the Greenwood Cemetary in Franklin. The Dr.s (?) did not leave any skin to cover the bone left bare by the saw and were not too clean so infection set in. His amputated leg was thrust into a box and buried in the barn.
