Read More	Thanks to contributor #47343179; Nance County Journal, July 29, 1943, page 7, transcribed by Linda Berney William Powers, son of Michael and Ellen Powers, was born at Caseyville, Ill., on January 13, 1864, and passed away at Fullerton on Wednesday, July 21, aged 79 years, six months and eight days. He came to Nebraska in 1881 with his parents, the family settling on a farm near Clarks, and two years later they moved to a farm in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood. In 1885 he took employment in the Union Pacific shops at North Platte, and worked as a blacksmith in railroad shops in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. In 1893 he became a member of the police force of Anaconda, Montana, and three years later was appointed chief of police, serving in this position for six years, after which he resigned to become a chief watchman for the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. He returned to the farm home in Merrick county in 1915, where he lived until February 1943 when he moved to Fullerton with his sisters, Kay and Margaret Powers. He leaves to mourn his passing three sisters, Mrs. Mary McNamara of St. Louis and Kate and Margaret of Fullerton; four nieces and seven nephews. His parents and four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Funeral serviced were conducted at the grave in the Fullerton cemetery on Friday afternoon, July 23, by Rev. Frank Kubisewski. Serving as pallbearers were William Tallon, Ivery Chesley, Henry Santin, John Klinge, John Pelican and Fred Santin.
