Description	:	W. R. Varner's death occurs this morning. William R. Varnerr, 81, of 1320 Missouri avenue, died at 2 o'clock this morning at Graham hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health the past two years and seriously ill the past two days. The son of the late Jasper and Cynthia Perrick Varner, he was born March 28, 1881 at Chambersburg, Illinois. Varnerr, 81, of 1320 Missouri avenue, died at 2 o'clock this morning at Graham hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health the past two years and seriously ill the past two days. The son of the late Jasper and Cynthia Perrick Varner, he was born March 28, 1881 at Chambersburg, Illinois. He came to Keokuk from Chambersburg and had lived here the past 60 years. He married Myrtle Florence Stephenson, December 8, 1919 in Keokuk, she survives. Mr. Varner had farmed and also worked at the Keokuk Electro-Metals Company for 10 years retiring in 1950. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters--Mrs. Gerald (Lucille) Watson and Norma Varner of Keokuk, and Mrs. H. L. (Helen) Thorn of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons -- Charles (Jack) Varner of Sante Fe Springs, Calif.,;John and Richard Varner of Keokuk; four brothers, -- Earl and elmer Varner of Keokuk, Glen of Zion, Illinois and Virgil Varner of Donnellson; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. numberous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a son Earl, a daughterr Cora who drowned in 1934 and a daughter Marie in 1940, a brother Jim and three sisters, Ethel Grace and Lydia. Funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Schmidt Memorial Home with Rev. Howard Webb officiating. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove cemetery.
