WILLIAM REX GRAHAM William Rex Graham was born Near Milan, Illinois August 31, 1896 and passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, March 4, 1969. He came to Pawnee county in 1900 with his parents, Phillip and Sarah Graham. As a young man he spent several years working as desk clerk in hotels at Scottsbluff and Table Rock, Nebraska. On June 18, 1923 he was united in marriage to Elma Iona Graver and began farming east of Pawnee City. After serving several years as precinct assessor he was elected County Assessor and served in that office for 16 years until he retired. He enjoyed his contact with people and had many good friends that he valued highly. In 1964 after fire severely damaged their home, the Grahams moved into Pawnee City, where they have enjoyed fixing up the present home. Rex was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Pawnee Odd Fellows Lodge and Encampment, taking an active part in both. He was also a member of the Burchard Masonic Lodge and a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister who died in infancy. he leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Elma, an aunt at Almena, Kansas; three uncles in Illinois; and a number of cousins. Funeral services were conducted March 6th, 1969 in the United Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Lloyd Fonken, assisted by the Rev. W. N. Wallis. Mrs. Richard Turnbull and Mrs. Byford Metzger, accompanied by Mrs. Ross Thiemann, sang "The Old Rugger Cross" and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Pallbearers were Clarence Borcher, Merton Johnson, Willis Loch, John Dougherty, Kenneth Wissler and Joe Binder. Burial was in the Pawnee City Cemetery.
