Bill is now with the Lord after passing away peacefully in the presence of family and friends on Jan. 26, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services in Aberdeen. Bill was born at home on a farm near Troy, on Nov. 6, 1932. His parents were John Francis Wall and Jennie Luvina (O'Neal) Wall. He attended Waverly Public Schools, where he played basketball and graduated in 1950. Bill was the first delegate from Waverly to attend South Dakota Boys State. After graduating from high school, Bill worked for the Waverly Public Schools driving a school bus. It was here that Bill met Patricia "Pat" Dunn, who was a teacher for the school. Bill would wait outside Pat's classroom at the end of the day just to talk to her. Bill and Pat began dating, often going roller-skating at lake Kampeska, and were married on July 28, 1952, in Sioux Falls. Shortly after marrying Pat, Bill was drafted into the Army and went through Basic Training at Fort Riley, Kansas. It was during Basic Training that Bill's first child, Cassie, was born. When he received his next leave, Bill hitchhiked all the way to Sioux Falls in order to see his new baby girl for the first time. Bill then served for a time in Germany and was discharged in 1955 as a Corporal. After his discharge from the service, Bill and Pat lived in Watertown, where he worked for Motor Supply Company and Frontier Motors in their parts departments along with farming part-time. In 1969, the family moved to Aberdeen, where Bill continued his career in parts with Johnson Motors until he retired in 1997. After his retirement, Bill continued to work part-time for several years at Hedahls Auto Plus. Bill loved to spend time with his family! Through the years, Bill and Pat were blessed with eight children that they took on many camping trips. It was common place to pack as many as nine people into a sedan to travel to Yellowstone National Park, Canada, Colorado and to the Black Hills. When the children were old enough, they became involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, where Bill served as Cub Master and Scout Master for many years. Bill frequently used his annual vacation to attend Scout Camp with his five sons - all of whom obtained the rank of Eagle Scout under his and Pat's guidance. And when any of Bill's children participated in a sport or other extracurricular activity, he and Pat were the most avid supporters and never missed an event. As devoted to their children as they were, Bill and Pat were even more devoted to each other. They had a wonderful relationship filled with unconditional love. They felt called to share their love for God and each other through participation in the Marriage Encounter and Engaged Encounter programs. Bill and Pat loved being part of these programs and served as Team Leaders for over 100 Engaged Encounter Weekends. Bill and Pat's prayer for their service in these programs was simply to have a positive effect on even one of the couples they worked with. As Bill and Pat's children matured and left home to start their own families, Bill and Pat enjoyed sightseeing and traveling to visit them and their growing number of grandchildren. In fact, Bill and Pat had the chance to visit so many states and countries that their children can't recall them all! In the most recent years, Bill especially enjoyed an annual "boys" fishing trip to Lake Osakis in Minnesota, where his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons would all gather for fishing and fun. Bill was very proud of his sons and grandsons who chose to serve our country in the Armed Forces. Two of Bill's sons, Joseph and Peter, served in the United State Army and completed multiple tours of duty overseas. Two of his grandsons, Erik and Tyler, are currently enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard and his grandson, Ryan, is currently in the Army Reserve serving in Afghanistan. These men have sacrificed much for our country and missed much time with family. Bill would be both disappointed and pleased that Erik and Ryan may not be present to honor him at his funeral as they are unable to attend due to their active military commitments. Bill and Pat had enjoyed 58 years of marriage when they were parted by Pat's death in 2009. The last two year of his life, Bill enjoyed living at Primrose Retirement Community. There he had the opportunity for much fellowship and he made many friends. He also enjoyed tremendously the company of the attentive and caring staff that he lovingly "gave a hard time" any chance he had. Bill was a kind and gentle man who was extremely devoted to his wife and children. Bill was a blessing to everyone who knew him and the love he shared with us all will live on in our hearts forever. Bill is survived by his children, Catherine (Micheal) Roberdeau of Bismarck, N.D., Timothy (Jean) Wall of Aberdeen, William Jr. (Jennifer) Wall of Owatonna, Minn., Daniel (Sandra) Wall of Littleton, Colo., Peter (Corinna) Wall of Bismarck, N.D. and Kayleen (Christopher) Harmel of Plattsmouth, Neb.; 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Bill are his brother, John Jr. of Watertown, and sisters-in-law, Dolores (George) Wall of Metairie, Las Vegas and Jean (Francis) Wall of Waverly. Preceding Bill in death were his parents; his sons, Joseph and Richard; grandson Logan; brothers, Francis and George; and sisters, Helen and Stella. May the God of Peace and Love grant Bill eternal rest with Him in heaven.
