Description	:	William Riley Strong was born September 25, 1869 in Brownville, Nebraska. He was the son of Charles and Mary Kushman Strong. He had one brother, Free (Fremont), and two sisters, Mary and Gertrude. He attended elementary school in Brownville. His father died when he was in the 5th grade, and he worked at whatever he could find to do to help support his mother and sisters. Read More	William Riley Strong was born September 25, 1869 in Brownville, Nebraska. He was the son of Charles and Mary Kushman Strong. He had one brother, Free (Fremont), and two sisters, Mary and Gertrude. He attended elementary school in Brownville. His father died when he was in the 5th grade, and he worked at whatever he could find to do to help support his mother and sisters. One year he worked for Governor Furnas, taking care of his yard and garden. It was seven miles from Brownville to Peru where Governor Furnas lived, and he would walk those seven miles each way to work each day. William Strong married Mary Rosetta Watson December 14, 1889 in Brownville Nebraska when he was 20 years old. They had three children. Their first child, Laura May, was born July 25, 1890 in Peru, Nebraska. She died August 24, 1891 when she was one year old. Frank was born in 1893 and Ethel was born in 1895. His wife, Mary Rosetta died December 8, 1896 when Ethel was one year old. William had been working for the Burlington Railroad, and he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska about this time where he became an inspector in the Lincoln yards. He moved to a farm near Trumbull, Nebraska and farmed with his brother Freemont for a few years. It was there that he met Bertha Korgan. They were married Sept. 3, 1898. They had ten children together - Clarence (1901), Mabel (1905), Alice (1906), Edward (1908), Robert (1910), Elwood (1912), Earl (1914), Marie (1916), Amy (1919), and Richard (1922). After his wife, Bertha, died in 1936, William spent much of his time in Gering Nebraska where several of his children had moved after starting families of their own. William died May 14, 1942.
