At an early age, his mother being called by death, he went from Indiana to Hayesville, Ohio, where he made his home with his sister. Read More	Thurs., March 25, 1920 Indianola Herald William Romine was born in Indiana February 9th, 1842, and passed to his Maker March 15th, 1920, aged 78 years, 1 month and 6 days. At an early age, his mother being called by death, he went from Indiana to Hayesville, Ohio, where he made his home with his sister. August 8, 1860, he was one of the Hayesville boys to volunteer for service in the Federal army. Having served his period of enlistment he re-enlisted, and finally mustered out July 20, 1865. He took part in some of the most notable engagements, among them being the siege of Vicksburg and Sherman's march to the sea. He was also one to march in the great military parade in Washington. While home on a furlough he was united in marriage with Miss Mary McQuillin, April 6, 1863. To this union were born seven children, three of whom, John, Olive [Oliver] and Fanny, preceded him in death. He came with his family to Iowa in 1869, landing near what is now Spring Hill, the 4th day of March—the day his former commander took his oath of office as President of the United States (Ulysses S Grant). In 1885 he moved to Saunders county, Nebraska, where he remained nine years, returning to New Virginia, Iowa, in 1894, where he lived until just a few weeks before his death, when he came to Spring Hill, that he might be near his daughter, Clara. For ten years he had suffered periodically, the periods of suffering gradually growing longer and the intervals between shorter until there were no longer any intervals. For four weeks he was unable to take any nourishment and even water strangled him at times. In death he found his only relief. He was a true and faithful husband and father and a good neighbor. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and four children, Mrs. Clara Hughes of near Spring Hill; Charles of New Virginia; Oscar of North Dakota; Edward of Milo. Also twenty-nine grandchildren; twenty-four great grand-children, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church, Spring Hill, conducted by Rev. Zumsteg. Interment was made in Webb cemetery. # # # Thurs., March 18, 1920 Indianola Herald Spring Hill - Grandpa Romine died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.D. Hughes, Monday, March 15th. Funeral services will be held at Spring Hill with burial at the Webb cemetery. # # # Prole – James Sheehey has purchased the property occupied by our ticket agent, Mr. Romine. Mr. Romine will occupy the property belonging to C.W. Wheeler.
