He married Nettie Morgan on January 12, 1897 in Scranton, IA. They were the parents of Elsie, Flossie, Andre, Lester and Gretta Pauline. Jefferson Bee - Tuesday, December 15, 1936 - William R. Calder, son of Warren and Elizabeth Calder was born in Clinton county, Iowa, on May 10, 1871 and died at his home near Churdan, December 10, 1936 after an illness of five months, at the age of sixty-five years and seven months. He was the oldest son of a family of eight, two dying in infancy, and one brother, Marion, preceding him in death three years ago. When a child he moved with his parents to a farm near Scranton, Iowa, where he lived until 1918 when he moved to his farm near Churdan, where he has since made his home. On January 12, 1897 he was united in marriage to Miss Nettle Morgan of Scranton. To this union five children were born: Elsie, Flossie, Andre, Lester and Gretta Pauline who passed away at the age of eight months. He was a faithful member of the following orders: Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Encampment and the Rebekahs of Churdan and the Modern Woodman of Scranton. He was a good neighbor, a devoted fraternal brother and a kind indulgent father. Those left to miss him are his wife and daughters: Mrs. Wilbert Clipperton, Mrs. Ward Mount and Mrs. Yates Lightner all of Churdan; son Lester at home; also seven grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs Minnie Gordan of Scranton, Mrs Ellen Mozena of Bayard, three brothers: George of Scranton, John of Jefferson and Joe of Coon Rapids; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Rev Alta Nichols. Two songs, "No Disappointment in Heaven" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" were sung by Mrs. Ray Canady, Mrs. Mert Canady, Walter Board and Emery Loveless, accompanied by Miss Helen Rogers. The I.O.O.F. Lodge also had charge of their service at the church. The casket bearers were: Charles Loveless, John Quigley, H.W. Reading, Walter Slibaugh, Fred Stribling and D.E. Whitney. Burial was made in the Willow cemetery near Scranton.
