Description	:	William Sherman Johnston was born March 6, 1886 to Richard H. and Elizabeth E. Johnston in Howard County near Wolbach, Nebr., and departed from this life on June 18, 1964 in the Howard County Hospital at St. Paul at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 2 days. He attended school at the former District 23 in Howard County where the family resided. Johnston in Howard County near Wolbach, Nebr., and departed from this life on June 18, 1964 in the Howard County Hospital at St. Paul at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 2 days. He attended school at the former District 23 in Howard County where the family resided. At an early age, due to the death of his father and being the eldest child, he assumed the responsibility of aiding his widowed mother operate the farm and in caring for the family. On December 29, 1909 he was united in marriage to Edna Jane Kinney in Wolbach. Five daughters were born to this union. They also reared two grandchildren, William Nelson of Omaha and Mrs. Jane Hartz of Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Johnston resided on a farm two miles south of Wolbach until the spring of 1937, when they moved to their present home in Wolbach. In December of 1959 they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the Methodist Church in Wolbach. Mr. Johnston was baptized in the Methodist faith and later became a member of the Wolbach Methodist Church. His interest in civic affairs included service for many years on the school board of his district. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ash of Worland, Wyoming; Mrs. Lola Hanseon, Big Springs, Nebraska; Mrs. Elaine Jacobsen, Wolbach; one sister, Mrs. Eva Lyions, Hastings, Nebr.; two brothers, George A. and Richard H. Johnston, both of Minneapolis, Minn; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Ada B.
