Description	:	WILLIAM STITT HAVERFIELD, son of William and Elizabeth Stitt Haverfield, was born April 16, 1812. He grew up and hardened into manhood by the assiduous work of an ax-man on the home place. His education was limited to that afforded by the village school of Cadiz. He was associated for some years with his brother-in-law, Thomas H. Taylor, carpenters, contractors and builders. He married Ruhannah D. Nash on March 13, 1842, at Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio. Read More	WILLIAM STITT HAVERFIELD, son of William and Elizabeth Stitt Haverfield, was born April 16, 1812. He grew up and hardened into manhood by the assiduous work of an ax-man on the home place. His education was limited to that afforded by the village school of Cadiz. He was associated for some years with his brother-in-law, Thomas H. Taylor, carpenters, contractors and builders. He married Ruhannah D. Nash on March 13, 1842, at Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio. Ruhannah was born in Cadiz on July 22, 1823. She was of Scotch descent. In 1842 or 1843 he went with his brother-in-law, Thomas H. Taylor, in search of a better location and field of work in Iowa. but returned disappointed. He became interested in the sheep business and with his brothers, James and John, took a large flock of sheep to Mercer county, 111., in 1852. He moved there with his family in 1857 and they settled a few miles west of Aledo in that county. They were members of the Associate Reformed (Presbyterian) Church of Cadiz, highly respected and esteemed in civil, social and religious circles. After reaching Illinois they moved about considerably, and in their moving from place to place he always sought to locate in a Christian community. They moved to Mercer county, 111., in 1857; to Randolph County, 111., in 1859; to Christian County, 111., in 1860; bought land in Shelby County, Ill., in 1863; and in 1877 he moved to Fenton PO in Rush County, Kansas, where he homesteaded and remained until his death.
