Oliver, well known semi-retired Phillips County farmer, passed away at about 5:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon on the grounds at the Lee Acott machinery sale west of Fleming. Mr. Oliver was 76 years of age. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Oliver had suffered other attacks in the past but had each time recovered sufficiently to remain active and take part in community affairs and farming interests. He had gone to the sale Tuesday in his car while a son, Ernest, drove a truck to the sale. After the sale, Ernest left ahead of his father to return home in the truck. Mr. Oliver was stricken as he approached his car. He is believed to have died almost instantly. Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter officiating. Interment will be in Holyoke Memorial Park, with Masonic rites at the grave. Arrangements are in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home William Walter Oliver was born in Adams County, Iowa, near Corning, on November 7, 1881. He spent his boyhood and youth in that community, then, while yet a young man, he moved with his family to Nodaway County, in Northwest Missouri. On October 15, 1907 he was united in marriage with Myrtle Lenora Clayton of Guliford, Missouri. To this union were born three children, all of whom survive. They resided on a farm in Nodaway County until February 1925 when they moved to Phillips County. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver established their home on a farm north of Paoli, residing there for 18 years. In 1943 they moved to another farm seven miles north and two miles west of Holyoke. Mrs. Oliver passed away on July 9, 1953. On August 17, 1954 Mr. Oliver was united in marriage with Mrs. Stella Grace (Ingalsbe) Sorensen of Holyoke. After a trip to the west coast, they made their home in Holyoke, where they have since resided. Mr. Oliver was a member of the Holyoke Methodist church, Masonic Lodge No. 81 of Holyoke, and Colorado Consistory No. 1 of Denver. He was very active in civic and community activities, conservation work, and was a dedicated agriculturalist. Survivors include his wife, Stella; two sons, Walter Maynard and Ernest Everett, both of Holyoke; one daughter, Doris (Mrs. L.W. Abbey), Holyoke, two brothers; one sister; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two step-daughters, Lois (Mrs. L.A. Biddle), Boulder and Shirley (Mrs. Renno Peterson), Littleton; six step-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends. Holyoke Enterprise March 6, 1958
