He was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Surry County, to William Walter and Wilda Beatrice Sechrist Manuel. Mr. Manuel was a retired self-employed painter, a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, 12th Armored Division, 7th Army Tank Battalion in the European Theatre, a retired member of the Pilot Knob Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Brim's Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian Barker Manuel of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam Manuel and Judy and Hickmon Simmons, all of Pilot Mountain; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Susan Manuel, Thomas and Glenda Manuel and Dennis and JoAnn Manuel, all of Pilot Mountain; an adopted son, Ronald Inman of Pinnacle; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Hazel Manuel of Pilot Mountain, Lucy Medlock of Winston-Salem and Faye and Dub Mitchell of Greensboro; and a brother and sister-in-law, L.H. and Peggy Manuel of Pilot Mountain.
